Fondly known as Deepa by friends and “Deepamavshi” by kids, Deepashri is an accomplished harmonium player, singer, and an extremely popular teacher in the greater Seattle area.
Her students pour in from all over the Eastside - like Bellevue, Redmond, Sammamish, Bothell as well as Seattle. Some are even from Canada and India!
She is affiliated with Kalangan, Mumbai with mentor Varsha Bhave, and largely follows their curriculum for kids. Some of her students also follow the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya syllabus, and she helps them prepare for those exams. She has been volunteering in teaching classical, semi-classical, and light music to kids and adults for the past few years. In 2020, Upon many requests from her students, she now conducts online classes. She has students of all ages, from 4 – 70.
Her training approach involves participatory teaching and learning. She gently guides students to their goals and mentors them with tremendous patience and understanding. Her goal as an instructor is to instill a love for music in her students. She also aims to connect children with Indian languages and culture.
Deepa is like a (slightly) older friend to the kids – they love sharing their experiences with her and she quietly broadens their horizons and enhances their personalities – while teaching music!
Deepashri Joglekar successfully completed her ICWA in India.
She has been singing since childhood and she started learning harmonium from Mr. Anil Kerkar. She is continuing her harmonium studies with Mrs. Parineeta Marathe.
She lives with her husband and daughter in Bellevue, while her son is studying in India.
